This time, we walked the opposite direction from the parking lot on the dike to the other impoundments. We kept to the outer edge of the preserve along the bay, and walked a bit into the wooded area past the impoundments before turning back.

To keep us from going stir crazy, we’ve been frequenting the park at the end of the point (its namesake). Today, we crossed the dune at the parking lot next to the trail gate. We walked on the beach until the cold wind chased us back to our car.

Today marks the emergence of one of Wisconsin’s earliest butterflies from hibernation: the satyr comma! It’s a “little known” butterfly of northern forests. I’d love to see one, and I’m glad to start thinking about butterflies after this long winter.
